Pratyangira Devi Homam in Srisailam is performed in a Yagashala outside the main temple. The puja duration is 4 to 5 hours. Goddess Pratyangira was larger than the other gods and goddesses, possessing a strong form. From a vast distance, her feet were down, and her head was above the entire sky. She has a thousand tongues, 2,000 eyes, 2,000 hands carrying multiple weapons, and a thousand faces of lions.
Her creation is said to have arrived amid thunder and lightning, and Narishmha Swamy instantly calmed down upon seeing her enormous figure and realizing the purpose of his Avatar. She settled on Narasimha’s lap to calm him down.
According to another mythology, two Rishis named Prathiyangira and Angiras discovered an unnamed deity while meditating in the past using a moola mantra, or root mantra. She thereafter gave herself the name Prathiyangira Devi in honor of the rishis.
