Modhera Sun Temple History
This temple was built during the reign of King Bhimdev of the Solanki dynasty. This temple is dedicated to Sun God and is located on the banks of Pushpavati. Stepwise Temple Tank is the major attraction at the temple and is called by Surya Kund. This one among of the 3 Sun god temples across India which are Konark Orissa and Martand Mandir Jammu. Scenes from The Ramayan and The Mahabharata were carved on the walls. This temple was built in two phases, Garbha Griha in the first phase and Sabha Mantap in the second. Sunrays touch Sun God in the Sanctum Sanctorum twice in a year. The temple architecture attracts tourists from distant places. Aarti will be offered twice in a day, one in the morning and second one during Sunset. There are sub-temples nearby where Goddess Durga, Goddess Uma Devi were installed.
