Khatu Shyam baba History
Legend dates back to the Mahabharata times, Barbareek, grandson of Bhim (Pandava brother) used to worship Lord Krishna from his childhood. Barbareek was blessed with 3 arrows which can destroy enemies in one shot. Barbareek chose to fight on the Losing side. As Krishna knows that Kauravas going to lose the battle, so Krishna decided to stop him from entering the battlefield. Lord Krishna stopped him while on the way to the Battlefield. Krishna disguised himself as a Brahmin and asked for Barbareek’s head. Lord Krishna Revealed his actual form to the Barbareek and got Barbareek’s head. He praised Barbareek for the sacrifice and placed the head on top of the hill to watch the battle. Lord Krishna offered boon, that Barbareek will be worshipped in Kaliyug on his name. After winning the battle, Krishna and Pandavas performed buried the head in Khatu.
In Kaliyug, A cowherd was grazing cattle in the forest. The cowherd noticed the strange behaviour with one of the cows. The cow dropping milk on its own on the Earth. The cowherd recovered the head and handed over to a Brahmin. Shyam Ji appeared in the dreams of the King and revealed his whereabouts. The King built the temple for the head and is worshipped in the name of Shyam Ji Baba.
