Karur Pasupatheswarar Temple History
As per the legend, Lord Brahma felt proud as the Creator of the world. Lord Shiva, instructed divine cow Kamadenu through the Sage Narada to perform penance in Vanji trees forest. As instructed, the divine cow, Kamadenu worshipped Shiva Linga hidden in an anthill. Kamadhenu used to perform Abhishekam with its milk. One day, while performing Abhishekam Kamadhenu’s hoof accidentally hit the Linga. The Linga started bleeding and scar is left on the Shiva Linga. It can be seen even now. Kamadenu pleaded guilty to Lord Siva. Lord Shiva worshipped as Pasupathi Nathar. Impressed Lord Siva assigned the creation work to the divine cow Kamadhenu. Kamadenu started the creation of the world job and wiped the pride of Brahma. Realising his mistakes, Lord Brahma performed severe penance for Lord Siva in Satya loka. Pleased Lord Siva reassigned the creation job to Brahmma and took Kamadhenu along with him.
