Yaganti Temple Legends

While returning from The North, Sage Agastya came across Yaganti and impressed with the natural beauty around and thought of installing Lord Venkateswara Idol here. After a little search, he was able to find Vishnu’s idol in a cave nearby and did all the rituals prior to installation. At the time of installation, Sage Agastya noticed that the Idol’s toenail was broken and stopped the installation. Agastya Rishi was upset and did penance to know the reason. Lord Siva appeared before him and told him that this place suits for a Saiva Kshetra and that is why he was not able to install the Idol. Lord Siva self-manifested here as Ardhanareswara ( Lord Siva occupies half of the body and another half will be of Goddess Parvathi) on request of Sage Agastya. Lord Siva is here known by Uma Maheswara.

Another version of the story is, there lived a Siva’s ardent devotee by name Chitteppa. For whom Lord appeared in the form of a Tiger, knowing this, he started shouting as ‘Neganti ni Shiva nu Neganti ni’ which means I saw Siva I saw)

Maddileti Narasimha Swamy Temple Legends

Sri Kadiri Narasimha Swamy lost in dice board play with his wife. With the victory over the Lord, Sri Lakshmi started teasing Swamy, for which Lord uneasy and left the place. While on his search for the stay at Yerramala, Nallamala Hills, He the met Sri Uma Maheswara Swamy at Yaganti and requested for a suggestion on his residence. His request, Uma Maheswara Swamy guided Him to the present Temple location which is next to Maddileru canal.

Moksha pattanam which is 3 km away from Maddileru canal was ruled by King Kanappa Dora. Kanappa Dora used to go for hunting on every Saturday while going around the forest, he noticed a monitor lizard glowing and in a different colour so ordered his staff to catch the monitor lizard. Soldiers after repeated trials were not able to catch the lizard, the lizard then entered anthill called as Komali. Soldiers were not able to find the lizard even after digging the anthill and they all returned to their kingdom.

On the same night, Lord appeared in the dreams of the King and revealed that it is Him who appeared as a monitor lizard and entered the anthill. On knowing this, King along with Vedic Pundits offered prayers to the God residing in the anthill. Lord pleased with their prayers, and came out from the anthill as a 10-year-old boy and disappeared after blessing them all.

As Narasimha Swamy manifested next to Maddileru canal, this place came to know as Maddileti Narasimha Swamy Temple
