Vallakottai Temple Marriage Procedure

• The bride must be 18 years and above.
• The groom must be 21 years and above.
• The bride’s and Groom’s Aadhar cards and SSLC Mark sheet photocopies are required
• Bride’s parents and groom’s parents Photocopies required
• The bride’s and groom’s parents/guardians must be available for the marriage.
• This temple only permits Hindu arranged marriages.
• The temple allows Sannidhi Thirukalyanam.
• The temple authority will issue a marriage receipt that is valid throughout the country.
• At present, due to COVID, Sannidhi Thirumangalyam is not available.
• The marriage hall is located near the temple.
• The marriage party has to bring all the required Pooja materials for the wedding on their own.
• The devotee can collect the marriage enrollment form at the counter.
• A minimum of one month’s booking is required, without which enrollment may not be possible.

3. An unmarried certificate from the Bride and Groom or a duly filled application sealed and signed by the Thasildhar/MRO

5. The bride’s and Groom’s Community certificates and TCs are required

Inter-Caste arranged Marriage ID proofs

1. Bride and Groom’s Aadhar Cards photocopies
2. Bride’s parents’ and groom’s parents’ Aadhar Cards photocopies
3. An unmarried certificate from the Bride and Groom or a duly filled application sealed and signed by the Thasildhar/MRO
4. The unmarried certificate must be in Tamil or English
5. The bride’s and Groom’s Community certificates and TCs are required
6. NOC from the Local police stations
7. A notary must record the marriage details and obtain approval from both the bride’s and groom’s parents.

A minimum of 20 to 30 days of booking is advisable to make the arrangements.

Vallakottai Murugan Temple Festivals

The temple possesses gold, jewels, diamonds, and rubies, silver vessel and other costly articles worth many lakhs of rupees. Every Thursday, Lord Subramaniyaswami is decorated with Diamond Vel. The day of Krittika is very important and thousands of people worship the Lord every month on this day. The main festivals are the Brahma Utsavam, Skanda Shashti and the festival of Subrahmanya’s marriage with Valli. A popular event performed a few years ago is the Sri Subrahmanya Sahasranama (1008 names of Subrahmanya) Archana. A Sahasra namamala, a garland of gold coins on each of which one of the 1,008 names of the Lord was inscribed, was made and offered to the deity. Devotees from far and near in large numbers participated in this holy and pious act.

Here also pilgrims carry Kavadis to the shrine and abhishekams are performed to the idol on behalf of the devotees. Bathing of the deity in holy ashes, known as Vibhuti Abhishekam is a feature here as in palani temple, and in that Abhishekam the idol has a very captivating and awe-inspiring aspect

Vallakottai Murugan Temple History

This temple is believed to be 1200 years old. Subramanya swamy tallest Idol is in this temple. This temple was built by the King Bageerathan who was ruling Sankodpuram of Ilanji Kingdom. As per the folklore, this place was ruled by the Asura Vallan. Lord Murugan killed the demon and restored the peace. This place was named after the Asuran as his last wish. Hence the placed called by Vallakottai. The deity hear known as as izhandha selvangalai meetuth tharum arulmigu kodayaaNdavar, the one who restored that is lost.
