When to perform Upanayanam?

It is advised to perform Upanayanam in the 5th year (beginning of the 5th year). Many used to perform Upanayanam in the 8th year, i.e., within the first 3 months after entering the 7th year. Performing Upanayanam is not advisable after the 16th year.

Sringeri Temple Upanayanam

Upanayanam will be performed on an auspicious date and time. One must reach Sringeri a day in advance to make the arrangements. It is the first step initiated for the child to learn Vedic mantras and chants. It is a new birth in the spiritual world, seeking high knowledge from the Guru. The holy thread ceremony will be performed in the Yagashala. Only parents are allowed to sit next to the child. All other relatives will be seated outside Yagashala. After the Holy Thread ceremony, the person will seek blessings from Sringeri Sharada Peetham Swamiji.

The devotee is required to carry 1 writing slate, 1 writing Chalk.

Sringeri Aksharabhyasa Pooja procedure

This Pooja will be performed for the group of devotees in a Mantap. Followed by the main deity Darshan. Temple Preist will be running the event with clear instructions and will hold the child’s hand in writing the letters.

Advance booking is not required for this pooja as it is performed on all days. Ticket to be purchased on arrival at the counter for the same day Pooja.

The crowd will be high on special days and the event might take long hours. Usually, Aksharabhyasa will be high during Apr and May month as it is the beginning of the academic year.
