Dharmapuri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple History

The Temple is located on the Bank of River Godavari. This temple also called as ‘Dakshina Kashi’ and is one of the Nava Narasimha Temples located in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
It is believed the Rama installed Saikatha linga (Shiv Linga made out of Sand) and offered prayers in Dharmapuri while on his way to Dandakaranya. Idols of Narasimha Swamy and Sri Ramalingeshwara Temples are located in the temple complex.
The importance of Keshtra is revealed in the life histories of King
Dharmavarma, princess Savitri and Dharmangada. The importance of this Kshetra was stated in Skandha and Brahmanda Puranas.
Deities located in the temple complex are Lord
Narasimha with Goddess Lakshmi, Sri RamaLingeshwara Swamy, Venkateswara Swamy, Gouthameshwara, Anjaneya, Sri Rama, Dattatreya and Sathyavathi besides Brahma Pushkarini.

Documents required: Aadhaar Card, School Certificate from Bride and Bride Groom. Parents/ Relatives Aadhaar Card.

Original documents are required for Marriage Booking. The bride and Bride Groom have to be Majors.

Marriage Procedure

1. Temple will be providing purohit for the marriage
2. Pooja Samagari and All other marriage items are self-arrangements.
3. Marriage will be performed on the temple premises. Hall is not provided for the marriage.
4. Marriage Guests are allowed to sit near the couple.
5. The newly married couple is allowed to have Darshan.
6. Food arrangements are not included in the marriage ticket cost.
7. Cancellation is not possible for the marriage booking.
8. Prepone or Postpone is not available.
9. When the crowd is high, Marriage is performed for 5-6 couples at a time.

Dharmapuri Temple Marriage Booking Procedure

1. Marriage Hall can be booked in advance by paying the full rent.
2. Seating arrangements, Food arrangements, Mantap Decoration,  Hall Lighting, Music, Nadaswaram, Purohit, and Pooja Materials are self-arrangements.
3. Hall is allotted for 24 hours. Second-day hall rent will be charged beyond the allotted time.
4. A booking receipt is required for hall allotment.
5. Cancellation is not available for the marriage hall booking.
6. Advance booking is required for the marriage hall as halls are limited.
7. Marriage Registration is not part of the Marriage hall booking.
8. The devotees can have Darshan after Darshan.
9. Marriage Hall is only for one family. Sharing is not available for the Marriage Halls. Only one marriage in one hall at a time.
10. Extra usage of Electricity and Water will be charged.

Please note that marriages are not happening inside the temple. It has to be performed outside the temple followed by darshan on their own.

Dharmapuri Nitya Kalyanam Procedure

Kalyanam is performed daily for the Processional deities Narasimha Swamy and Goddess Lakshmi. The celestial wedding is performed following Agama Sastra. The devotees are allowed to sit and watch the Divine Wedding in a Mantap. The devotees are allowed to have Darshan after Kalyanotsavam. Kalyanam is performed outside the temple in a Mantap for the group of devotees.

It is believed that participating in the celestial wedding will be blessed with good Health and wealth.

Kalyanam will not be performed on special days due to the crowd. Ticket can be purchased on arrival at the counter for the same day Kalyanam. Online Booking is not available for this Seva.

Saswatha Nitya Kalyanam Ticket Cost: Rs.2116.

The Kalyanam is performed once in a year in the name of devotees. The devotee can choose the Kalyanam Date as required (this date is not applicable for special days such as Vaikunta Ekadasi, Nrusimha Jayanthi etc.)

Dharmapuri temple History

From the inscriptions, it is known that this temple was built in 1018 AD. This temple was demolished in 1422 – 1436 AD by the Muslim rulers. It was rebuilt in the 17th Century. Temple is located on the banks of River Godavari. Lord Yogananda Narasimha Swamy self-manifested in the form of Saligrama Sila. Rama installed Lord Siva Idol in this temple, hence the name Rama Lingeswara Swamy. This temple was built in 11th Century AD.

As per the Legend, Lord Vishnu took the form Narasimha (Human Body and Lion Face) and killed the Demon King Hiranya Kashyap. Lord Narasimha’s anger didn’t go down even after killing the demon. Lord Narasimha roaring in anger and roaming in the Hills and Forests. Devas, Prahalada and Saints prayed for Lord Narasimha to calm down. On their request, Lord Narasimha performed meditation here in this place in Yoga Mudra posture. Later, King Dharma Varma an ardent devotee of Lord Vishnu built the temple. This temple is called as Hari Hara Kshetram.

The Temple will be heavily crowded on Nrusimha Jayanthi, Mukkoti Ekadasi (Vaikunta Ekadasi) and Karthika Pournami days.

Annual Brahmotsavam will be performed 13 days, which starts on Phalguna Suddha Ekadasi. Nine days festival will be celebrated during Nrusimha Jayanthi.
