SriVari ChakraSnanam – Tirumala Brahmotsavam
Tirumala, 24 September 2015: Srivari Salakatla Brahmotsavam came to crescendo and climaxed on the 9th day with the Chakrasnanam ritual performed in the presence of thousands of devotees at the Swami Puskarini.
According to Hindu Scriptures, Sudarshana Chakra is a spinning, disk-like weapon with 108 serrated edges used by Lord Sri Maha Vishnu. The Sudarshana Chakra may be depicted as an ayudhapurusha(anthropomorphic form). He is depicted as a fierce form of Vishnu. While the Sudarshana Chakra is depicted as a subordinate figure with Vishnu, it is worshipped as an ayudhapurusha.
According to the Puranas, Sudarshana Chakra is used for the ultimate destruction of an enemy. There is yet another significance, the word Sudarshana means “vision of which is auspicious”. Hence Sudarshana is generally worshiped during Homas or rituals or religious events to ward off negative powers or vibrations. This is significant feature in performing chakra snanam to the holy disc during Brahmotsavams.
Later the utsava idols are taken for Holy bath in the SriVari Pushkarini. Thousands of devotees got the opportunity to bathe along with Charkathalwar. Whoever takes bath along with chakrathalwar bath will not anymore life and they will go to Vaikuntam after life. After the bath the utsava idols were taken back to Temple.
A special ritual of worships and prayers are performed to the Utsava idols at Ranganayakula mandapam in evening before the preparations for the Dwaja avarohanam, heralding the close of Brahmotsavam.
