Gurhapravesham has to be performed for 3 days. On the first day, Vasthu Shanti; on the second day, Gruha Pravesham; and on the third day, Sathyanarayana Vratham.
Gruhapravesham pooja Muhurtham
Good Tithi: 2, 3, 5, 7, 10 and 13
Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday are good days.
Good Nakshatra: Rohini, Mrugasira, Uttara Phalguna, Chitha, Anuradha, Uttarashada, Shatabhisha, Uttarabhadra, and Revathi.
Not Good Nakshatra: Aswini, Punarvasu, Hastha, Swathi, Sravanam
Good Lagna: Vrushaba, Mithunam, Kanya, Dhanassu, and Meenam
Magha, Phalguna, Vaishaka, and Jyeshta are auspicious in Uttarayanam.

It is mentioned in the Shastra that Vasthu Shanti (Homam) has to be performed a day in advance. A house owner can’t sleep on the same day. Only after Gruhapravesha Pooja will the house be good for cooking, sleeping, and other activities. Sathyanarayana Vratham can be planned for another day. Serving food will be a priority. Taking the cow inside the house will remove all Vasthu Dosha. The first goseva should be performed before entering the house.

- It is advisable to name houses in the name of God rather than family names.
What if it is a new housewarming ceremony in an apartment?
In this case, Govu and Lega cannot be taken inside. Instead, feed the cow and Lega at the bottom of the apartment and then carry the Prathima (idol) inside the house.
When should I perform the Gruhapravesham Pooja?
Without windows and doors, Gurhapravesham cannot be performed. Vasthu Devatha Pooja, Vasthu Homam, Vasthu Shanti, Bali, and Navagraha Shanti have to be performed a day in advance.
- Women can perform this puja after the 8th day of their menstrual cycle.
- Both husband and wife should participate in this puja for good results.
- This puja can be performed after 12 months if there is a death in the family
- One should stop taking non-veg three days before the puja.
