Nathdwara temple history

As per the folklore, Locals used to graze cattle on Govardhan Hill. A cow detaches from the herd and drops milk on top of a mysterious black arm. Cowherd discovered that the cow was not yielding any milk. He then followed the Cow to find out the cause. He then discovered Shrinathji Idol. The cowherd unearthed the Idol in the year 1409.

To protect the Idol from the Aurangazeb invasion, this Idol was brought to Rajasthan in 1665. This Idol was on the Journey for 32 months. Maharana Raj Singh offered services to protect the Idol. While on travel, the chariot wheel struck in the mud at Nathadwara. Maharana thought that it was an indication from Lord Krishna. Idol was installed and the temple was built here on the Banks of River Banas.

On Krishna Janmashtami, Temple remains open till 12:00 am.
