Anamudi Shola National Park
This park stretches over an area of 42.68 sq. Km and is 45 km from Munnar Town. This area was declared a National Park in the year 2003. There are three attitudes in this Park among which Mannavan Shola is the largest in south India.
Huts, Log Houses, Rhodo Valley Treetop, Arial View of Kanthalloor Falls and Trekking are the major things here.
Mathikettan Shola National Park
This park stretches over an area of 12.82 Sq.Km. Trekking is the interesting activity here as the path passes through valleys, streams and plantations. This area was declared as the Reserve Forest in 1868. Cardamom cultivation is major on this hill. Elephants, Gaur, Leopard, Wild Boar, Sambar and Common Langur are inhabited in this park. South-West Monsoon and North-East Monsoons are active.
Best time to Visit: Apr-Sep month
This park is reachable from Kochi which is 110 km away and 120 km from Madurai. Aluva is the nearest railway station which is 120 km away.
Tributaries of Panniyar, Uchilikuthipuzha, Mathikettanpuzha and Njandar took birth in these hills.
Pambadum Shola National Park
This area was declared a National Park in the year 2003. This park stretches over an area of 11.75 Sq.Km. This place is reachable from Munnar which is 36 km away. This National Park falls between Kanan Devan Hills and Palani Hills. The path from Munnar to Kodaikanal pass-through this National Park and the Kerala border region is known as Vandaravu.
From Munnar, take the road leading to Top Station. Mattupetty dam, echo point and Kundala lie on the way to the Top Station. On reaching top Station junction, take a sharp left and drive for a kilometre. while the road ahead leads to top Station View Point. Then we reach the forest check post, which also has the national park and forest offices nearby. Entry passes will be provided here. It has to be updated to the forest officials on the purpose of visit like trekking, sightseeing.
Kurinji Mala Sanctuary
This park stretches over an area of 32 sq. Km. This park lies between Anamudi Shola National Park and Pampadum Shola National Park. Grizzled giant squirrel, Nilgiri wood-pigeon, elephant, sambar deer, gaur are inhabited in this park. Annual Neelakurinji Festival will be held in the month of October and is organised by the Forest Department to promote tourism.
