As stated in the epic Ramayana, The mighty bird Jataayu fought with Ravana while on his way to Lanka, who abducted Maa Sita while Rama and Lakshamana away from home.
During the fight with the demon Ravana, Jayaatu was grounded with severe injuries by losing his wings. Rama in search of Sita arrived here and saw the Jataayu who was in his moments of Life. At the last moments of Jataayu, Rama uttered the word ‘Le Pakshi’ which means ‘Arise Bird’

Veerabhadra Swamy Temple was built by the brothers Viranna and Virupanna during the period 1529 – 1542 A.D, who was the headman of the Vijayanagar King Achyutha Deva Raya. This temple is dedicated to Veerabhadra Swamy. Temples of Shiva, Vishnu and Veerbhadra were located in this temple complex.
The monolith Nandi, which welcomes you to Lepakshi Town is if 4.5 meters height and 8.23 mt length. It is about 200 mt from Veerabhadra Temple. It is positioned such a way that it faces Shiva Linga inside the temple complex.
Hanging Pillar of Lepakshi Temple is one of the engineering marvels. Among the 70 pillars of the temple, one hangs without any support. Visitors used to check this reality every time they visit the temple
