But Guruvayur is a pilgrimage site that is famous for its own glory and greatness. This is mostly due to the gods housed in the temple’s central shrine (Sanctum-Sanctorum) and the idol that is placed there. Mahavishnu is the main god in the Garbhagraha (central shrine). He is worshipped according to the pooja rituals set by Adi Sankaracharya, which were later put into the Tantrasamuchaya by Chennas Narayanan Namboodiri (born 1427). The Chennas Namboodiris are the Tantri who have always lived at Guruvayur temple. Most people, though, pray to the Lord as UNNIKRISHNA or BALAKRISHNA.

Groom in Dhoti and Shirt. Bride in Traditional dress.

Marriage Duration: 5 minutes.

Wedding Location: Inside Guruvayur Temple.

Guruvayur Marriage Procedure

1. One month advance booking required.
2. The bride and groom are allowed to use Dias for Thalikettu only.
3. The purohit, bride, and groom can only enter Dias.
4. Darshan is not included in this marriage booking.
5. Offering to Purohit is up to the couple. No restriction on this.
6. The bride must be 18 years old or older.
7. The Groom must be 21 years and above.
8. Only Hindu arranged marriages are allowed.

Marriage Registration Process

1. Aadhar Cards Photocopy along with School Certificate
2. 3 Passport Size photos from Bride and Groom
3. Wedding Card
4. Three witnesses with valid Photo ID proof
5. Two Marriage Photos – Thali Kattu Pics.
6. The registration certificate will be issued on the same day at the Guruvayur Municipality.
