Late 19th-century construction of the Vadapalani temple. Annasamy Naicker, a devout follower who, with faith in the Lord’s powers, constructed a small thatched house, installed a painted portrait of Lord Murugan, and started daily devotion to it. According to the legend, Annasamy Naicker suffered persistent stomach pain for which he was unable to get relief. Despite very few to no transportation options from Thiruthani to Thiruporur, braving the rains, the cyclones, and the criminals on the route, he journeyed far and wide, visiting revered temples of Lord Muruga. One day, a Sadhu appeared in Annasamy Naicker’s dreams and asked, ‘Why do you look for Murugan all over when he is there in your house?’ He started working, came home, told his family the tale, and started fervently praying to the Lord. His daily pooja schedule was thereafter carried out twice a day in his very house. Annasamy Naicker offered his tongue at the Thiruthani temple one day, on the word of a Palani sadhu he met. That brought his illnesses to an end.

One day, he followed his dream excursion to the Southern Pazhaniyathra, returning after his Darshan of the Dandayuthapani, and as he descended the steps, a lovely painting of Lord Murugan caught his eye. He found it to be hypnotic. He brought the painting back to Chennai because he believed it was a priceless item. He set it in his house and covered it with a thatched roof. He regarded it as very holy aboard the Palani and begged his family to move elsewhere. Using his Arul Vaakku during pooja, he began helping people to solve their difficulties. He also goes by Pavadam since he took it after offering his tongue to Lord Muruga.

Vadapalani Murugan Temple Marriage Procedure

• The bride and groom must follow Hinduism.
• The bridegroom, 21 years old, must have turned 18 years of age on the day of marriage.
• Bride-and-groom community certificates have to be generated.
  The parents of the bride and groom had to be there at the marriage.
• If either the father or mother has passed away, the surviving parent must provide a death certificate for the deceased parent along with an Aadhaar card.
• Should both of the parents pass away, guardians will be allowed to duly provide the death certificate of the parents along with identity (Aadhar Card) proof.
• Love couples are not allowed.
• An unmarried certificate will be generated by the relevant authorities [MRO/Thasildhar].
• The marriage certificate from the government registration office can be obtained by pilgrims using the same darshan receipt.

Vadapalani Murugan Temple Marriage

• The Bride must 18 years and above
• The groom must be 21 years or older.
• This temple only permits Hindu-arranged marriages.
• Bride’s and Groom’s Aadhar cards and SSLC Mark sheet photocopy
• Bride’s parents and groom’s parents Aadhar Card Photocopy
• The Moolavar Sannidhi only permits marriages in Thiurmangalayam.
• Thirumangalyam welcomes the couple and their relatives, and the newlywed couple will receive Darshan.
• There is a marriage hall on the temple premises that can accommodate three marriages at a time.
• Other marriage parties will also share the marriage hall.
• Decoration and catering are not allowed on the temple premises.
• Purohithar, Nadaswaram, pooja articles, garlands, photography, video shoots, etc. cost extra.
• You must book the marriage halls separately, if necessary.
• Bride’s parents and groom’s parents/guardians must be available for the marriage.
• The temple authority will issue a certificate for the marriage registration.
• The marriage halls require booking due to their limited capacity.

Marriage Registration Procedure

• Marriage enrolment is allowed within the office opening hours.
• Online booking is not available. One must visit the temple in person to collect the enrolment form.
• Marriage enrollment charges: Rs. 2000 (Only Permission fees)
• Marriage decoration is not allowed inside the Vadapalani Murugan Temple

A minimum of 20 to 30 days of booking is advisable.
