We perform this puja with sesame seeds, known as thila. This pooja involves the performance of Pinda Pradhan, Shraddh, and Pitru Dosha. One should perform this puja with devotion to attain the best results. A reservation is required to make the puja arrangements. Rameswaram Jyotirlinga Kshetra is known for dosha nivarana poojas. As per the legend, Lord Rama installed the Shiva Linga at this place. The Rameswaram Temple is renowned for its Pitru Karma Poojas, which take place outside the temple.

Rameswaram Temple History

According to legend, Rama Setu was built by Lord Rama and his army so they could cross to Lanka and rescue Sita from the demon king Ravana. It is said that Lord Rama installed and worshipped the Shiva Linga at this place.

According to folklore, after defeating Ravana and rescuing Sita, Lord Rama worshipped Lord Shiva to get rid of the sin of killing a brahmana during the battle.

He took advice from the sage Agastya, who advised him to install a lingam in Rameswaram. Sita created a tiny lingam out of sand, known as the Ramalingam, which is believed to be the one in the temple’s sanctum today, because Hanuman was supposed to bring a lingam from Mount Kailash but was delayed.
