Wayanad on the Western Ghats is the second largest animal sanctuary in the state of Kerala. This reserve occupies 345 Sq. km of area and is part of Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve. This sanctuary houses herbivorous and Carnivorous wild animals such as Elephant, spotted Deer, Indian Bison, tiger, leopard, sloth bear, monkey, civet cats.

Apart from wild animals, this place attracts bird watchers as Peacock is commonly seen here. This sanctuary houses rare and endangered species. Other commonly seen birds in the sanctuary are Malabar Grey Hornbill, woodpecker, kingfisher, black drongo, bulbul, lapwings and pheasants

Private Vehicles are not allowed for Safari. It is only by the forest department vehicles and Vehicles goes on a dedicated route Best Time to Visit: June, Jul, Aug, Sep and Oct months
