Vaikunta Perumal Temple Kanchipuram Legends

It is said that Lord Maha Vishnu appeared and blessed the King of Viroacha with children. Two son’s of the king Pallavan, Vallavan was believed to be the reincarnation of Vaikunta Dwara Palakas. Pallavan and Vallavan performed Aswa Medha Yagam.

Vaikunta Perumal Temple Kanchipuram History

This temple was built by the King Nandivarman II from Pallava Dynasty during 720 Century CE – 796 Century CE. Later this temple was renovated by Medieval Cholas, Pandyas and Vijayanagara Kings.  Temple was constructed in the Dravidian style of architecture. This temple is revered in Nalayira Divya Prabhandham, which was composed during 7th Century CE – 9th century CE, by the Vaishnavite Scholar Thirumangai Azhwar in his 10 hymns.

There are very few temples with Ashtanga Vimana, this temple is one among them. This temple follows Vaikasana Agama in performing daily rituals.
