It is believed that Lord Brahma came to Thiruvinnagaram from Satyalokam to celebrate the Lord’s Brahmotsavam for the first time. When the Chithirai star appeared in the ascendant, in the month of Panguni, the first Brahmotsavam was conducted. Even now, Brahmotsavam is observed on the same day. The festival is observed for eight days, with a Thiruttare Utsavam on the ninth day, which overlaps with Ekadasi and Thiruvona Nakshatram. On another occasion, during the month of Purattasi, when the star Chithira is in the ascendant, Brahma celebrated another Brahmotsavam for eight days. On the ninth day, during another ascendant Thiruvona star period, the Lord is said to take a ceremonial bath in the Dakshina Ganga river. Even now, during the months of Purattasi and Panguni, devotees celebrate the two Brahmotsavams. It is said that Lord Brahma visits Thiruvannagaram along with other devas to oversee the Brahmotsavam activities.

Preferable Dress Code

• Gents: dhoti (white) and shirt or kurta and pyjama.
• Ladies: Saree or Salwar Kameez (with Pallu Compulsory).
• All pilgrims are requested not to wear clothes such as T-shirts, jeans, etc., as the same is strictly prohibited irrespective of any age group.
