Jwalamukhi Temple History

As per the Legend, Sati Daughter of Daksha Prajapati married Lord Siva against her father’s will. Daksha thought of insulting his Son-in-law by performing Yagna. Daksha invited all Devas excluding Lord Siva and his Daughter. Knowing this Sati reached her paternal home to advise her father. Daksha Prapati insulted Sati before Guests. Sati raised her and self-immolated her in the Yoga Agni. Angered Lord Siva ordered Veerabhadra to Kill Daksha and Destroy the Yagna. Veerabhadra along with Kali and other Siva Ganas executed his master’s command. Lord Siva danced the dance of destruction after collecting Sati’s Corpse. Lord Vishnu in order to protect the universe sent his Chakra and made Sati’s body into pieces. The body parts fell across Indian Subcontinent which was named as Shakti Peetas. It is believed that Sati’s Tongue fell here.

Jwalamukhi Temple Timings

The crowd will be high during Navaratri festival days. Goddess in this temple is worshipped in the form of Flames. \

As per the folklore, The cowherd used to graze his cattle in this mountains. Cowherd noticed that one cow was not yielding milk. He informed the king on the same. King followed the cow and noticed that it is emptying its udder here. King realized that it is Maa Sati’s Tongue and built the temple. It was later renovated by the Pandava Kings.
