Jwala Mukhi Temple History, Timings, Darshan

Jwala Mukhi Temple History

As per the Legend, Daksha’s Daughter Sati married Lord Siva against her father’ wish. Daksha decided to perform Yagna to insult his Son-in-law by inviting all Devas and not inviting Lord Siva. Sati who came to know about his father Yagna reached her paternal home advising her father. Angered Daksha insulted Sati before the guests. Sati Devi immolated herself in the Yogagni. Lord Siva who came to know about Sati’s death raised high and ordered Kala Bhairav and Kali to kill Daksha. Kala Bhairav, Kali along with other Siva Ganas destroyed the Yagna place and killed Daksha. Lord Siva danced the dance of destruction after collecting Sati’s corpse. In order to protect the universe, Lord Vishnu sent his discus and destroyed Sati’s body into pieces. The pieces fell across the Indian subcontinent and became holy places which were called by Sakthi Peetas. It is believed that Sati’s Tongue is fallen here. There is no idol in this temple, goddess here is worshipped in the form of flames.

This temple was built by King Bhumi Chand. Akbar tried to put off this holy flames by covering with Iron disk. He even tried to pour water on these flames. All his efforts went vain. After realizing the power of Goddess, he gifted Golden Parasol but it then turned to metal.
