Jajpur Temple Orissa Timings, History, Pooja details

Jajpur Temple Orissa History

As per the Legend, Sati daughter of Daksha Prajapati married Lord Siva against his wish. Daksha Prajapati thought of taking revenge for which he decided to perform Yajna. He had invited all Devas excluding Lord Siva. Sati who came to know about Yajna reached her paternal home to advise his father. Daksha insulted her daughter Sati before the guests. Angered Sati Self immolated her in Yogagni. Angered Lord Siva ordered Veerbhadra and Kali to destroy Yajna. Siva Ganas along with Veerbhadra and Kali destroyed the Yajna and Killed Daksha. Lord danced the dance of destruction after collecting Sati’s corpse. To stop the universal destruction, Lord Vishnu sent his Chakra and destroyed Sati’s body. The body parts spread across Indian Subcontinent. And these places are called Sakthi Peeta’s. It is believed that Sati’s Limbs had fallen here.

The goddess here called by the name Biraja Devi. This temple was built during the reign of Candihar Yayati II of Somavamsi dynasty i.e between 10th – 11th century A.D.
