Indira Gandhi Wildlife Sanctuary

This sanctuary is located at an altitude of 2400 mt above the sea level. This wildlife sanctuary stretches over an area of 108 Sq Km. Topslip is located at an altitude of 240 mt above the sea level and is located in the Annamalai hill ranges. Elephant ride is available for the tourists. Two-wheelers are not allowed inside the Sanctuary for safety purpose. Four wheelers are allowed inside Sanctuary. Forest Vehicles are also available for the ride inside the Sanctuary. This area was declared as the national park in the year 1989.

Commonly seen animals

Indian Bison, Elephants, Spotted Deer, Barking Deer, Langur Monkeys, Sambar, Pangolin, Peacocks, Nilgiris Tahr, are commonly sighted in the sanctuary. Lion-tailed macaque, Bonnet macaque, Nilgiris langur, Malabar giant squirrel and Grizzled giant squirrel can be seen here as well.

Advisable to visit Sanctuary in the morning hours so that there is a possibility of animals deer, bison, hornbills, elephants sightseeing. Tigers are spotted rarely in this sanctuary.

Trekking Inside Forest

Trekking is allowed only for 4 hours with a Tour guide. It cost Rs.70 per person for trekking.

There are arrangements for exploring the sanctuary on elephant back or by van. If you plan to walk in the park, you must have a Park Guide with you and you are allowed to walk in the park for a maximum of four hours for INR 70 per person.
