Mawjymbuin cave Timings, History, Entry fees, Route info

Mawjymbuin cave History

This cave is the form of Stalactites and Stalagmites, one hanging from above and one standing on the ground in the shape of the cow’s udder. The beauty of these two natural art stones is that water is dropping down from the hanging stone every second and doesn’t stop pouring. Hindus believed that it is feeding milk to a god. This natural formation appears in the form of ShivaLinga’.

There are so many beliefs and stories attached to these Caves. Villagers believe that ” white witches” reside inside the cave and safeguard the village from all bad. It is believed that these witches visit village and market. Locals say that if this cave is used wrongly or damaged or anything has been done to the stalactites and stalagmites, the village will be in danger or maybe the village shall be under draught and that the economy would be shrunk. The locals also believed that if the tips of the stalactite and stalagmite would touch each other, the world would come to an end. So, the people took it as a symbol of luck and blessing to the village.

A few decades ago, one saint came and stayed inside the cave for many days. He started performing rituals and during this period of his stay inside this cave, the water that drops out from the hanging stone (stalactite and stalagmite) of the cave, stops pouring down. So, the locals went and chased the saint away. Only when the water starts pouring down again.
