<p>Gwalior fort History, Timings, Route, Entry fees, Places nearby</p>



<p>This fort was built on Gopagiri. From the inscriptions, it is known that 139 Kings ruled this fort.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Gwalior fort History</h2>



<p>• According to the inscriptions was built in 8th CE &amp;, King Suraj Sen (Suraj Sen Pal) Was the founder of this fort.<br>• This fort was ruled by 135 kings<br>• The Pal Kingdom Ruled this fort for a long time, (989 Years, i.e, up to 83 descendants)<br>• Later Kachchapaghatas Ruled<br>• Mohammad Ghazni Attacked this fort in 1023 CE &amp; Failed<br>• Qutb Al-Din Aibak Ruled in the 1196 Year<br>• 1231 Ghulam Kingdom Iltumish Ruled<br>• After Iltumish King Devram brought the Thomar Kingdom in Gwalior<br>• 1398 to 1505 Thomar Kingdom ruled the region<br>• Maan Singh was&nbsp;popular in the Thomar&nbsp;Kingdom<br>• 1505 Sikander Lodi Tried To Capture the Fort but failed to defeat Maan Singh<br>• 1516 Ibrahim Lodi Son Of Sikander Lodi Defeated (Killing) Maan Singh<br>• Later Mughals Ruled:<br>• Babur (Mughal Emperor) attacked the Thomar Kingdom &amp; Won The Fort<br>• In 1542, Babur&#8217;s Son Humayun was defeated by Sher Shah Suri<br>• In 1540, Sher Shah Suri was killed by Islam Sha (Delhi Sultanate) Shifted their kingdom From Delhi to Gwalior<br>• In 1558, Akbar Attacked &amp; Ruled the fort<br>• After Mughal Rulers, Rana &amp; Zhata Kingdom Ruled<br>• Then Marathas<br>• From 1736 to 1756, King Bhim Sinh Rana (Zhata Kingdom) ruled<br>• In 1779 Marata Chatrap of Sindhya Kul Ruled<br>• But later East India Company captured the fort from Marata Chatrap<br>• Middle of 1804 &amp; 1844 British &amp; Sindhya rulers ruled<br>• In 1844 Sindhya attacked Maharajpur (Sindhya Ruled)<br>• 1st June 1858 Rani Lakshmi Bai &amp; Maratas Vidrohis Ruled<br>• 16 June British General announced war on Maratas Vidrohis<br>• Rani Lakshmi Bai &amp; Maratas Vidrohis were defeated by the Britishers<br>• Exact after 3 days (Death Of Rani Lakshmi Bai) Britishers Captured the fort.<br>• Then Britisher handover the Ford to Sindhiya&#8217;s<br>• Scindhiya&#8217;s ruled up to 1947</p>
