Borra Caves History, Timings, Route Information, and Contact number

Borra caves also called by Borra Guhalu, where Guha means Cave in Telugu. The Caves are located in Ananthagiri Hills. These caves are located at a height of 705 m with depth goes down to 625 m and trekking path is available for 350 m. These caves were discovered by the research group led by William King in 1807. Later, a research group from Andhra University found tools made out of rocks, which dates to 30,000 to 50,000 years. River Gostahani which flows via Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam emerges from the area. There is a naturally formed Siva Linga inside the caves. Sivaratri festival will be celebrated in a grand. The hill routes are occupied with the tribals, Jatapu, Porja, Kondadora, Nookadora, Valmiki and other groups.

As per the folklore, the rock formation above the Siva Linga represents the divine cow, Kamadhenu. It is believed that River Gosthani originates from Kamadhenu Udder, which flows through the districts, Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam and then joins the Bay of Bengal near Bheemunipatnam.

Entry Timings: 10:00 am – 1:00 pm and 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm
