Soumyanatha Swamy Temple Nandalur

Soumyanatha Swamy Temple Nandalur, which is at 2 mins walk from Town. This Temple resembles Chola culture and architecture and is built in 11th Century. This Temple spreads across 10 acres and is a popular Vaishnava site. There are inscriptions on Temple walls, which dates from 10th till 17th Century. This temple underwent renovations during this times of Pandyas, Kakatiyas and Vijayanagar dynasties. During Patiraja dynasty, this temple received the high prominence. As per inscriptions on the Temple walls, this temple holds 120 acres of agriculture lands, which is meant for the development and maintenance of temple activities.

This temple has four Raja Gopurams, which stands in four directions. Gali Gopuram was built by Someswara III in the 12th Century. South facing Gopuram was built during the Vijayanagara period. Mandapam inside the temple is built on 108 pillars. Inscriptions on Pillars explains Bhagavatham.  The main idol Sri Soumaynatha Swamy is facing towards East

The Idol here resembles the Idol of Sri Venkateswara Swamy in Tirumala Hills, the only difference is that the main Idol is in ‘Abhaya Hastham‘ whereas in Tirumala the Lord is in ‘Kati Varada Hastham‘ posture.

Great Poet Annamayya praised Sri Soumyanatha Swamy with 16 of his Sankeertanas.

There is a huge fish carving on the ceiling of the temple, belief is that one day this fish will turn alive and swim in the ocean. Temple is constructed with red stone. The pillars of the Mandapam (porch) have lion’s heads at the bottom of the pillar.

Temples and Sub Temples

Sri Yoga Narasimha Swamy is located at the entrance of the sanctorum. There are sub temples for Prayoga Narasimha Swamy, Vinayaka Swamy, Anjaneya Swamy. There is also small pond opposite to Gali Gopuram, within temple premises.

Temple Closes from 1.00 p.m – 4.00 p.m

Abhishekam will be performed on every Friday

Kalyanotsavam will be performed to the deity, at end of June or the beginning of Jul months.

Devotees who are having long-standing wish will do 9 Pradakshinam first and performs 108 Pradhakshinam after their wish is fulfilled.

How to reach Soumyanatha Swamy Temple Nandalur?

  1. Temple is 45 km from Kadapa Town
  2. 10 Km from Rajampeta and takes 10 mins by Road to reach this place.
  3. 98 km from Tirupati,  Bus runs at high frequency to Kadapa and Rajampeta.
  4. The train is available from Tirupati to Nandalur at regular intervals.

Sri Parvathi Sametha Ullangeswara Swamy

Another famous temple near to Soumyanatha Swamy Temple, which is built during Chola period in 10th century. Sri Parvathi Sametha Ullangeswara Swamy resides here. ‘Ullam’ in Sanskrit means Manasu ( Heart)

Chandeeswara pradakshinam is very famous at Ullangeswara Swamy Temple.

  1. The temple is closed between 1.00 p.m & 4.00 p.m
    Also food u carry on your own, as u will not find any decent food outlet. Please avoid trains as u will not able to manage time.

  2. Visited the temple today. There was annadanam being done by the temple committee during Saturday and Sunday from October 2016 onwards. It was a good experience.
