As per the Legend, Indra (God of Heaven) installed the Idol brought from Kasi and worshipped the deity after winning the war against Asura with Lord Siva’s support. Saint Agastya worshipped the deity and educated the devotees. The temple tower which is of 180 ft was rebuilt in 1990.

Lord Siva appeared in the dream of King Parakrama Pandiya and instructed him to build the temple here itself instead of travelling to Kasi. King recovered Linga from the anthill and built the temple. This temple is of 700 years old. In Tamil ‘Ten’ means South and this temple is called by South Kasi.

Goddess Ulgamman faces west in this temple. The temple tank Kasi Theertha is located outside the temple. Shenbagam tree is located within the temple complex.

Tenkasi Temple Timings

Morning Hours: 6:00 am – 12:00 pm

Evening Hours: 4:00 pm – 8:30 pm

Free Darshan for all the devotees. Archana and Abhishekam is performed to the deity daily.

Major Festivals are Thiru Kalyanam in Aipasi (Oct/Nov), Maasi Magam festival which runs for 10 days (Feb/Mar), Navaratri (Sep/Oct).
