Gavi Boating Timings and Charges

Best Time to visit: Jun – Nov months

It is a full engagement at Gavi ie. from 7:00 am – 4:00 pm. One day program cost Rs.1000 for one person. Accommodation is available near the Dam. Tourists used to stay in tents. Tents are located close to the Lake and provide an excellent view. Tourists used to spend their evening hours outside tents. Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner will be provided as part of the day program. Tents will have electric fencing to avoid any animal intrusion during nights. The restroom is also available near to the tent.

Gavi is 28 km from Vandiperiyar and located in the Pathanamthitta district. This forest host many rare species such as Nilgiri Tahr, Lion-tailed Macaques, Tiger, Gaur, Indian hornbill etc. This area comes under Periyar Tiger Reserve Zone.

Online booking is not available for this tour package. It can be booked on arrival at Kumily. Best time to reach Gavi is at 2 pm that is after having lunch at Vandiperiyar town. It helps in maximising the stay at Gavi as it is 24 hours only.

Periyar Lake Thekkady Boating Charges

One can purchase 2 tickets at the counter. One boat trip runs for 1 hour 30 mins across the lake. This boating unit comes under KTDC.

Best Time to visit: Feb – May months. During summer animals gather at the lake in the evening hours. Bison, Deer, Wild Boars, Elephants are commonly seen here while boating. When the water level falls down boating will be cancelled. Advisable to plan between Feb, Mar and Apr months as the water level will be good.

This Periyar Lake was formed while building Mullaperiyar Dam across the Mullaperiyar River in the year 1895.

This area was declared as the National Park in the year 1978. This park stretches over 777 Sq. Km. This Park is one of the major Tiger Reserves in India. It is estimated that there are 40 tigers currently living in this park.
