As per the local folklore, One-day evening Goddess appeared as a young girl before the head of Mulluveettil family, who was performing his rituals in the River Killi. She sought help from the old man in crossing the river. He helped her in crossing the river and took her to his house nearby. The young girl disappeared while the family members are busy in their preparations. The young girl then appeared in the dreams of the old man and asked him to build a temple in Kavu. She even revealed that the temple can be built at the spot marked by three lines. The old man then built the temple in no time. Later, this temple was renovated by the local devotees.
